A Fragrance Brand Built Around Memory, Scent and Moments That Don't Quite Leave
ÉTHER is a fictional fragrance brand exploring the relationship between scent and memory. Built around fleeting moments and the traces they leave behind, the project brings together brand strategy, creative direction, copywriting and campaign development to create a complete brand world.

PROJECT INTRODUCTION
Project Type: Fictional Brand Concept
Industry: Fragrance / Beauty
Focus: Brand Strategy | Creative Strategy | Copywriting | Campaign Development
Website: ÉTHER
THE IDEA
WHAT IF A FRAGRANCE COULD REMEMBER FOR YOU?
Certain smells have a strange way of bringing back moments we thought we'd forgotten. A room, a summer afternoon, the air after rain, someone who isn't around anymore. ÉTHER was built around that feeling. The idea that a fragrance can become a keeper of moments we can't quite hold onto.

THE BRAND TERRITORY
FLEETING MOMENTS:
The ordinary moments that become meaningful later.
SENSORY MEMORY:
The connection between scent, feeling and recollection.
EMOTIONAL RESIDUE:
The traces people and places leave behind.
LINGERING:
The instinct to stay with something a little longer.
FINDING THE VOICE
ÉTHER needed a voice that could talk about memory without turning every thought into a grand statement. The writing was kept intimate and restrained, allowing specific moments and observations to carry the emotion.
The language focuses on moments people can immediately picture themselves in, while leaving enough space for their own memories to enter the story
“The rain stopped. You didn't want the evening to.”
“What if a fragrance could remember for you?”
“Stay a little longer.”
BUILDING THE IDENTITY
WHEN THE BRAND IDEA BECOMES AN IDENTITY
The visual identity carries the same sense of memory, atmosphere and impermanence. The softened É reflects the fading edges of memory, while restrained typography, muted tones and atmospheric imagery build the wider visual language. The bottle was kept minimal so the surrounding brand world could carry the storytelling.

THE FRAGRANCES
“The rain stopped. You didn't want the evening to.”
A fragrance built around the atmosphere after rain, when the air changes and an ordinary evening suddenly feels worth holding onto.
A quiet moment in the middle of the night, when the world has gone still and being awake feels strangely separate from everything else.
A memory carried through sunlight, warmth and the feeling of a summer that only becomes precious once it has passed.
A fragrance inspired by the quiet moment after someone leaves, when their presence still lingers in the room. It captures the feeling of holding onto something that has already gone.
Together, the four fragrances give the brand four different ways to explore the same central idea: the moments we experience briefly but remember for much longer.

THE CAMPAIGN
STAY A LITTLE LONGER
Some moments become the ones we wish had lasted a little longer. Stay a little longer grew from that feeling, exploring the small ways people delay an ending, from taking the longer route home to lingering after goodbye.
The campaign expanded ÉTHER's ideas about memory and scent into a broader human feeling: wanting a moment to last just a little longer.

CAMPAIGN EXECUTION
The campaign was translated into short-form pieces that progressively built the ÉTHER world. The brand introduction established the idea, the four fragrance pieces turned individual moments into stories, and the Stay a little longer piece expanded the emotional territory into a broader campaign statement.
THE CONTENT ECOSYSTEM
ÉTHER extended beyond its identity and campaign through a connected content ecosystem, with each platform given a distinct role while remaining tied to the same central idea.
WEBSITE — The central ÉTHER world, bringing together the brand story, collection, campaign and editorial content.
INSTAGRAM — Short-form visual storytelling and campaign communication.
MEDIUM — Longer-form exploration of memory, emotion, branding and the ideas surrounding ÉTHER.
SUBSTACK — More intimate and reflective writing around the emotional side of the brand.
PLATFORM-SPECIFIC COMMUNICATION
The central ÉTHER idea remained consistent across every platform, while its expression changed according to each channel. The website built the deeper brand world, Instagram handled visual storytelling, Medium explored the wider thinking, and Substack offered a more intimate editorial voice.
EDITORIAL STRATEGY
The editorial strategy took ÉTHER's ideas beyond fragrance into broader conversations around memory, emotion, scent and human behaviour.
• Stay a little longer
• Memories don't have pictures
• The moments we don't realise we'll miss
• Why do certain smells feel like time travel
• Why We Remember Feelings Better Than Details
• Why Brands Are Selling Feelings Now
• The Smell I Didn't Know I'd Remembered
• A Letter to the Moments That Ended Too Soon
CROSS-PLATFORM CONTENT JOURNEY
All four website blogs were connected with the two Medium pieces, two Substack pieces and four Instagram posts through contextual recommendations and backlinks. This allowed readers to move between platforms and discover related content, turning separate publications into one connected ÉTHER content ecosystem.

FROM STRATEGY TO EXECUTION
BRAND STRATEGY — Developed the emotional territory and positioning around fragrance, memory and fleeting moments.
CREATIVE STRATEGY — Translated the central brand idea into a coherent creative direction.
CAMPAIGN DEVELOPMENT — Developed the “Stay a little longer” campaign around delaying small endings.
COPYWRITING — Wrote brand copy, campaign lines, website content, social captions and editorial pieces.
CONTENT STRATEGY — Built an editorial ecosystem across the website, Instagram, Medium and Substack.
CREATIVE DIRECTION — Established the visual and verbal direction of the brand.
BLOG/EDITORIAL STRATEGY — Extended the brand idea into longer-form writing around memory, emotion, scent and branding.
CROSS-PLATFORM DISTRIBUTION — Connected content across the website, Medium, Instagram and Substack through contextual recommendations and backlinks.
THE THINKING BEHIND THE WORK
FROM A FRAGRANCE TO A BRAND WORLD
The challenge was making one emotional idea feel consistent across different forms of communication. The fragrance, identity, campaign and editorial content therefore developed as connected expressions of the same thought.
MEMORY → BRAND IDEA → BRAND TERRITORY → VOICE → IDENTITY → CAMPAIGN → CONTENT → DISTRIBUTION
This kept strategy and creative execution connected from the first idea through to the final communication.
MY FINAL TAKEAWAY
FROM AN IDEA TO A BRAND WORLD
ÉTHER started with a simple question about fragrance and memory, then grew into a complete brand world across identity, campaign, content and editorial communication. The project allowed me to take one emotional idea and develop it into a consistent strategic and creative system across multiple forms of communication.
AN IDEA BECOMES A BRAND WHEN EVERY PART OF THE EXPERIENCE KNOWS WHAT IT STANDS FOR.
